Crawfish Kids Library - for the Baipidi Primary School in Botswana

6/6/2013 to 12/06/2013
New Orleans LA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We live in New Orleans, LA and love to read! We will be collecting 1,000 gently used books for the Crawfish Kids Library.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

My son is turning two this year and I wanted to do something positive in his name. He loves to read and I cant imagine children growing up without coming into contact with any books. The summer before my senior year in high school I spent a summer in Botswana and fell in love with the country. Being able to bring a library to Botswana so that other children can enjoy books as much as my son does, will feel incredibly fulfilling.

About our African Partners...

Our library will be in Botswana at the Baipidi Primary school!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

For a primary school library: Books at U.S. pre-school to 4th grade reading level. We need to collect 1,000 gently used books.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Feel free to email me at to pick up books or for a shipping address. We will be partnering with schools, daycares, companies and organizations to host week long book drives. If you would like to schedule a book drive, please email! We hope to raise all books by the end of November, 2013.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

We need to raise $300 to pay for the container shipment to Botswana. Any extra money that is raised will go towards purchasing gently used books. You can send money through paypal to or you can send a check. Please email for a contact address.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please keep an eye out at garage sales, thrift stores, and libraries for inexpensive, gently used books to buy. The books should be for preschool-4th grade reading level. Also take some time to go through the books you have to look for any books your children may have out grown that you would be willing to part with. Books should be in good condition so that they will continue to provide enjoyment.
