African Library Project

King & Spalding Discovery Center Book Drive

05/01/2013 to 06/30/2013
Atlanta GA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

The Discovery Center is part of King & Spalding, a large law firm based in Atlanta, GA. We have a history of giving back to the Atlanta and US communities through monetary donations and community service projects. Starting a library in Africa is a natural extension of our commitment to the community, both at home and abroad.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I, Jane Bradshaw, organizer of this book drive, have worked at the Discovery Center for over 5 years and have been wanting to start a library for some time and finally made time for it. My aunt Chris, the founder of ALP, has been an inspiration to me my whole life and I want to promote her good work here at K&S. The Discovery Center at King & Spalding is very supportive of community service projects like this one and I am very grateful for that support.

About our African Partners...

Lesotho, Primary library (Preschool – 4th grade reading level). Lesotho is in southern Africa, completely surrounded by South Africa. English is the second official language, after Sesotho. The country's motto is "Peace, Rain, Prosperity."

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

The books get to Lesotho by ship, and it costs $300 to ship 1,000 books from New Orleans, and it costs about $200 to ship the books from Atlanta to the Port of New Orleans. Please help offset this cost by making a contribution here: http://www.africanlibraryproject.org/about-us/donations Please put King & Spalding Discovery Center Book Drive and SHIPPING DONATION in the comment section to make sure we get credit for your donation.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please donate gently used children's books or make a monetary contribution. Thank you!!
