African Library Project

Sharing Love. Sharing Words. On The Road to Helping Today's Readers Become Tomorrow's Leaders.

04/18/2013 to 05/30/2013
Corinth MS

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Savannah and I am 17 years. My intentions for this project are not only to touch the lives of the children and teachers receiving these books, but also to teach my community in Corinth, Mississippi the positives of giving to others. This is my first book drive and I am extremely eager to see all of the good it brings.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I grew a yearning to do this product through my love of reading and interest in extending this love to others. The videos of the children from these countries who have been able to achieve having dreams such as becoming president or a doctor as result of ALP were extremely inspiring to me. The fact that these children are given the same career opportunities I have as result of this project is truly inspiring. It makes me feel like I can make a difference. I want to start a library because I want to see these kids' dreams come to life. Starting a library in Africa will allow me to become a greater global citizen by ultimately allowing me to step across cultural/geographic boundaries.

About our African Partners...

My partner is Milepa Primary School in Malawi. This school has teachers and students eager to learn but lacks one vital necessity...(BOOKS). Most of the students in this school are learning from teachers who are, for the most part, teaching solely by memory. These children and teachers need books in the worst way.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

-Books at U.S. pre-school to 8th grade reading level
-Educational games and puzzles

Here's how you can contribute your books...

There are several locations in Corinth where books can be dropped off:
-Corinth Public Library
-Corinth High School
-First Presbyterian Youth House
We may add more collection sites. The deadline for donating books is May 18th, 2013 to give us time to sort the books. However, if you would like to make a donation following this date, feel free to contact me or African Library Project.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Any sort of sponsorships/donations are greatly appreciated and can be sent to an address upon request. Also, any ideas for other forms of fundraising are always welcome!! If you know of any ideas, please email me at any time!

Here are some ways that you can help...

There are tons of ways that you can help make this library successful. Donations of books and money are definitely vital, but there are so many more ways that you can help!
I could definitely use help with:
-putting up flyers/posters about the product
-sorting books prior to shipping them
-writing notes/drawing pictures for the kids who will be receiving them
-spreading the word!!! :)
