Joy Warfield Washington Memorial Library

10/20/2012 to 03/25/2013
Spokane WA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Our book drive is a memorial to Joy Warfield Washington. Joy loved to read and to share books with children so the African Library Project seemed a fitting tribute to her life. Over half of the books we have gathered came from her personal library.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Joy's faith informed her actions and it would make her happy to know that children who do not have enough will be able to enjoy the books that she treasured. As her family and friends, it also allows us to do something tangible to show our love in the aftermath of her death.

About our African Partners...

Our partner is the Bepoase Community Library in Ghana. This school serves about 242 K-6th grade students in the Agona-Asante region of Ghana.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We have gathered most of the books that we need but would welcome any paperback books about Africans or African Americans for K-6th grade readers,

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Please contact Kerry at if you would like to contribute books.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to donate money to help pay for shipping, please send your check to: Kerry McCruden, 618 E. Wabash Ave., Spokane, WA 99207. Please note on the memo line that it is for the Joy Warfield Washington Library.
