African Library Project

Today's Readers, Tomorrow's Leaders by Miss Africa Pennsylvania State University

12/01/2012 to 05/04/2013
University Park PA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Daiyon Kpou, the current Miss Africa Pennsylvania State University. I would like to use my influence to help better my homeland, the continent of Africa. I, along with the members of the Penn State African Students Association, will do my best to contribute to the work of the African Library Project

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Similar to many of the countries supported by the African Library Project, my home country Liberia also has a low literacy rate. I have seen many smart, hard-working Liberians left uneducated and unemployed because they could neither read books or fill out working papers. I believe that it is my duty to at least try to improve this condition because if others had not done the same for me, I would not be in college today.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Any books for students ranging from pre-school to 8th grade.
