African Library Project

Adenta Community Primary School - Ghana

Palo Alto CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We are a mother-son team with a goal of spreading compassion throughout the world. We participate in and contribute to a variety of causes. Those involving literacy and children are our special favorites.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

This will be our 6th "African Library". The first one was done out of a desire to increase world literacy. That's a good purpose but its not why we've continued to create libraries.

After the first one, we received letters and watched videos of the children receiving their books. One little boy had to have his book removed from him while he slept. Another little girl decided she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up because she learned from a book that it was possible. The parents' eyes shone with joy as they saw the possibility that their children would grow up and have better and more secure lives than they realized in these modest libraries.

The joy of the children is our passion. Being able to make this much of a difference is something of a holy mission and a beautiful gift. We hope you'll be a part of it.

About our African Partners...

Our books will go to a primary school in Ghana, Africa. In 1957, Ghana became the first nation to declare independence from colonization in sub-saharan Africa. The word Ghana means "Warrior King". We'll fight to ensure the children have resources, hope and promise in their futures. I like the Ghana motto of: "Freedom and Justice"; I think we can all help for this to continue to be their future by spreading literacy throughout the country.

Please contribute these kinds of books...
