Theressa James Primary School Book Drive

10/01/2012 to 12/10/2012
Denver CO

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Pam Jorgensen and after visiting Theressa James Primary School where my daughter Hannah Campbell volunteers through the Peace Corps this past month I feel even more called to help. I live in the Denver, Colorado area and also am spending time in Orlando, Florida in the next month. If I can pick up a donation or provide an address for cash donations please don't hesitate to reach out to me for more details.

These children have a piece of my heart.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

In October of this year my fiance and I spent three days at the Theressa James Primary School in Lesotho meeting students and teachers and observing their lessons. These children sometimes walk for an hour to attend school, arrive on time and in uniform ready to learn in their cement block classroom. They love to learn and are proud to be in school. Their classrooms are bare with the exception of the posters the teachers make to help teach them to read and write. There are no books. They built a small room to serve as a library but there are no books.

Nothing can compare with the generosity of the teachers and students at this small village school. With barely enough for themselves, they brought their best food to prepare and share. They gave us the gift of their songs and dances. They thanked us repeatedly for coming and felt we brought them good luck for their exams. They shared love. All they asked was that we never forget them. We will never forget them but we want to return the love and generosity they shared with us. We want to help them shape a brighter future.

Please consider anything you can give to help me with this cause.
