Salem Montessori School's African Library Project

10/01/2012 to 03/01/2013
Salem VA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Salem Montessori School is asking our school community to donate gently used or new books for our African Library Project. We are helping set up a library in Ghana. Our goal is 1,000 books!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We are helping start a library in Africa because we believe that the gift of books is a wonderful way to help establish and support a community. Our students enjoy reading so many books and are excited to be able to share those books with others from around the world!

About our African Partners...

We will be helping start a library in Ghana.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

For a primary school library: Books at U.S. pre-school to 4th grade reading level.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We have collection boxes located in each classroom of the Primary/Elementary campus, and in the main vestibule at the Infant/ Toddler campus. From there we will be sorting and counting the books as a class and preparing the boxes for being shipped off.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Our school will be having a "Read-a-Thon" on Friday, December 7th. We will be asking our family, friends & neighbors to sponsor our reading efforts.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please help us collect: Baby board books, children’s picture books, children’s fiction and non-fiction, early readers, Children’s dictionaries/picture dictionaries, books with universal themes (friendship, animals, love), children’s health books, accurate up-to date atlases, brain teasers, flashcards, educational games and puzzles.

PS – We are also in need of sturdy small sized cardboard boxes (about 10x13x12) in good condition for packing. Please bring them to school where we will store them.
