We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

The Hanes Magnet School National Junior Honor Society and The Library Club are partnering with the Hanes Media Center to organize and support this book drive.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe in free and voluntary access to books for all children. Therefore, we have decided to sponsor a school every year. Our entire school and parents help us every year to meet our goal. This will be the 4th school that we have sponsored!

About our African Partners...

Our African Partner School is Mahlabaneni Primary School (located in Swaziland) which has grades Pre-K through 5th grade. Our plan is to collect at least 1,000 books that students in the these grades would enjoy reading.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Please contribute new or "gently used" books that will be appropriate for Pre-K - 5th grade students. Fiction, non-fiction, dictionaries, etc. will be accepted. They will also accept puzzles, flash cards, educational games and stationery.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Send or bring your books to the Hanes Media Center at any time during the school day.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to donate money towards the shipping costs, you may drop that by the Media Center as well. Please make checks payable to Hanes Magnet School.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Ask friends, family members, and neighbors for children's boooks they no longer need, or go to Edward McKay and purchase something good and inexpensive, or make a monetary donation towards the shipping costs. Any help you give will be appreciated.
