Kess's African Library Project

07/15/2012 to 03/15/2013
Plano TX

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Kess Fullington and I am 15 years old. I organzied this book drive with the help of my mom, Julie, and neither of us can wait until this project is up off the ground!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Reading has been something I have enjoyed for as long as I can remember. I want to share my love of books and all that I have learned from them with the children in Africa. Building a library for them would be something very special.

About our African Partners...

I will be sending the books I collect to a secondary school in Swaziland, a small country almost completely surrounded by South Africa. The approximate shipment date is March 15, 2013 (3/15/13).

Please contribute these kinds of books...

I am looking for books of a 4th to 8th grade reading level. They need to be in fairly good condition and fall into one or more of these catagories:

-Juvenile literature
-Children’s fiction and non-fiction
-Teacher's resource books for school libraries
-Dictionaries
-Encyclopedias less than 15 years old
-Accurate up-to-date atlases
-Thesauruses
-Math books from 6th grade up, including algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus, English books (focusing on grammar or comprehension), geography books, health books, science books including general science, biology, chemistry, and physics at appropriate level. Send no more than two copies of any textbook, these will be used as a teacher resource
-Books with universal themes (friendships, animals, love)
-Books like Chicken Soup for the Soul (inspiring stories with life skills lessons)
-Books about Africa or African-Americans
-Educational kids science and literary magazines in good condition
-Brain teasers, flash cards, educational games and puzzles
(Paperback books are preferred, but all books are accepted)

If you are not sure a book fits any of the catagories above, send it anyway! I will sell it to raise money for the shipping and packing costs.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can mail any books you wish to donate to this address:

Kess Fullington
3816 Pilot Drive
Plano, TX 75025

If you ship using media mail, it will be less expensive than if you use first-class mail. If you live in the area and would like to drop off books at the address above, please contact me via email (kessfullington@yahoo.com) or phone (214-407-9145), so we can schedule a time.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

In order to ship the books to Africa, I will need to raise approximately $500. This will account for all packing and shipping costs.

All donations will be appreciated. Every bit helps! Also, I plan to have another website up-and-running soon, where I will sell some of my sewing projects. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go toward the African Library Project. I will have further updates on that later.

If there is a particular way you want your donation acknowledged (ex: by name, in honor of someone, or if you wish to remain anonymous), please don't hesitate to tell me.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Other ways you could help include:
-Donating packing supplies (ex: boxes, packing tape)
-Help sort books
-Help pack books
-Spread the word to all you know
