African Library Project

Girl Scout Troop 2614's African Library Project

07/10/2012 to 12/10/2012
Powell OH

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We are a Junior Girl Scout Troop of eight girls from Powell, Ohio. We have worked very hard to collect over 2000 books for the children in Africa.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to provide the children of Africa with books. We are all very fortunate to have access to books and we would like to share our love for reading with the children of Africa. Most African children don't have books and Africa has the highest percentage of illiteracy in the world.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Due to Girl Scout regulations, the girls are unable to fundraise or ask for monetary donations. Since the girls have worked so hard in collecting the books, their parents are assisting by asking for donations to assist with the cost of shipping. It is estimated that the cost to ship 2000 books to Africa will be $1000.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please see the contact information below if you are willing to assist with the efforts of the parents of Girl Scout Troop 2614 by donating money for the shipping costs.
