Books Beyond the Horizon

03/01/2012 to 05/04/2012
Fresh Meadows NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hello! We\'re Books Beyond the Horizon, Francis Lewis Highschool\'s resident book club! As a book club, we don\'t only read and discuss books but also wish to promote literacy. Helping out with the African Library Project is one of the most ideal ways in which we can do so. This is our first time doing this but we hope to turn this into an annual event. Please help us make our initial effort successful so that we can start a tradition that will cause a great impact!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

The only reason why we can exist as a bookclub is because our country strongly promotes literacy. Students in African countries don\'t have the same opportunities that we do or governments that promote education and literacy enough to truly ensure their advancement. We want to give these disadvantaged students the possibility to improve their literacy and become empowered citizens in any way we can. Starting a library in Africa is the best way we feel we can do that.
