Literacy for Lesotho

4/17/2012 to 12/01/2012
Washougal WA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

The Jones' family and we'd love your support to make our dream of creating a library in Lesotho Africa. We love doing community service projects together as a family and thought this would be a great experience to share with everyone we know. We are calling our book drive Literacy for Lesotho. We are located in Washougal, Washington.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We feel everyone should have the opportunity to receive an education. We enjoy books at our house and realized how many we have around that we no longer need. We are hoping our family, friends, and co-workers are also in the same situation. Just think how one book maybe a favorite as a child has changed how you think or feel? You could do that for the children of Lesotho.

About our African Partners...

We have a school! Yeah. We will be shipping our books to Ratsoleli Primary School in Lesotho. The library will serve 7 teachers and over 200 students. WE only have a couple more months and our books will be of to Africa.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are looking for primary school books grades PreK thru 4th. We will take hard back but we are mostly looking for paperback books to help keep the shipping costs down. The children of Lestho are also in need of Baby board books, Easy Readers, Children's picture books, Juvenile literature/Chapter Books, Encyclopedias & atlases (post 1990) and paperback dictionaries.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Thanks so much for all your contributions.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Please donate what you can.

Here are some ways that you can help...

As of today we need to start by collecting books, and money. We will also be in need of any donations of boxes for shipping. If we can get donations of boxes (about 10x13x12in), packing tape, and heavy duty, large plastic bagg(trash compactor boxes are ideal) Then that is less money we'll need for shipping costs. And of course the most important any paperback books that you no longer need that would be appealing to a PREK thru 4TH grader.
