Wenonah's Junior Librarians' African Library Project

02/01/2012 to 3/16/2012
Lake Grove NY

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

The Junior Library Leaders are a group of six fifth grade students (Emma, Peter, Tristan, Brendan, Kristina, Olivia and Lexi) who are leaders for the library media center with Ms. Lounsbury at Wenonah Elementary School in Lake Grove, NY. The students are leaders and role models for the entire school by reading to younger students during library, helping students find books or go on the computer, checking-in and checking-out books and most importantly helping students in library reach their goals!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We wanted to start a library in Africa because a former teacher from our school is working in the Peace Corps teaching in Africa. She contacted another former Wenonah teacher, Mr. Ungar, to see if our school could help donate books to schools in Africa. We believe every student has a right to read as reading will lead the students in Africa to have bright futures. We wanted everyone to be able to enjoy a library just as we do in the United States.

About our African Partners...

Our African Partner is: Mpolonjeni Primary School in Mbabane, Swaziland.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...
