African Library Project

Coffee Bean Book Drive - deadline Dec. 1st

05/01/2013 to 12/01/2013
Menlo Park CA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Cricket Gorey, I am an eighth grader at Hillview Middle School. I am also a Cadette Girl Scout in Troop 33170. This is my 4th book drive for the African Library Project. As a result, I've helped establish 4 school libraries in Lesotho, Botswana and Malawi.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I love to read - and I enjoy passing on my love of books and reading! This book drive will help me earn my Girl Scout Silver Award

About our African Partners...

This book drive will establish a library at Ha Ralikariki High School in Lesotho!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

2. Children's fiction and non-fiction
3. Teacher's resource books for school libraries
4. Dictionaries

6. Accurate up-to-date atlases
7. Thesaurus
8. Math books from 6th grade up (including algebra, geometry and pre-calculus)
9. Books with universal themes (friendships, animals, love)

Here's how you can contribute your books...

You can send me an email and I will come pick up your books: cricket@goreys.com

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

I have collected the requisite 1,000+ books and need to raise an additional funds, currently $50 for international shipping.  Can you help?  Your contribution to the African Library Project will be tax-deductible.  No donation is too small. If you would like to donate $5 or $10 to help me raise money for shipping costs that would be awesome! You can send a check (with my name in the memo field—very important) to:
Treasurer, African Library Project
2613 Octavia Street
San Francisco, CA 94123
OR you can use Paypal—just click on the “Donate Now” button on ALP’s homepage, enter your donation information and, when you get to the “Please review your donation” web page, please click on the “We value your comments” link and enter my name. Thank you!
