African Library Project

Westgate Elementary Community Service Club Book Drive

01/24/2012 to 03/13/2012
Falls Church VA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

The Westgate Elementary School Community Service Club began this year. It is comprised of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. These students voluntarily joined this club in hopes of making their community a better place. So far, CSC has held a food drive and visited their local senior center. Students successfully planned a food drive that collected over 400 pounds of food.

The students of the CSC are ready to take on another service project. We will be holding a book drive to help build a library for a primary school in Botswana, Africa. Our goal is to collect at least 1,000 books. In order to ship these books to our partner school, we also need to raise a minimum of $500 dollars to send these books overseas.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

The students at Westgate realize how fortunate they are to have access to so many wonderful books. When we read, we learn, we grow, and we discover. We want to help build a classroom library in Botswana so that other students have access to some of the same books and knowledge that we do.
