African Library Project

Giving is Caring

03/12/2012 to 03/31/2012
Cupertino CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

I\'m Sharan, an eighth grader in Cupertino, California. I love to play sports and hang out with my friends! I hope you can all help me reach my goal of 1,000 books and $500 for this wonderful cause.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I would like to help children in Africa by donating books because I believe education can make a difference. You have it for life, and it\'s something nobody can take away from you. Being able to read gives you more power, makes your life more meaningful, and helps you get better jobs.

About our African Partners...

Herefords High School in Buhleni, Swaziland.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

4th - 8th grade books and teacher resource materials for this school such as:
- Magazines such as National Geographic
- Works of Fiction, paperbacks and hardbacks
- Atlas, Dictionaries
- Biographies
- Educational Games, Puzzles

Here's how you can contribute your books...

To the Lawson community: There is a bin in the front office with \"African Library Project\" printed on it. Please drop off books here. There will be prizes for most books donated. $25 giftcard for first, $15 for second, and $10 for third. So if you want to enter for the prizes, see Mrs. Hubbard when dropping off the books. She will record the number of books you\'ve dropped off. For those of you who have lots of books to give away, I will be glad to come by your home and pick them up.
Others: Please drop them off at my home (20335 Via Volante Cupertino CA 95014) or email or phone (408) 252 5027so I can come by to pick up. Thanks!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you don\'t have books to give away but would still like to help, money would be most welcome. I need to raise $500 for shipping costs. Appreciate any change you can spare.

Here are some ways that you can help...

If books and money don\'t work for you but you really want to help, I could definitely use some help in packing up the books when the book drive is over. I will need boxes as well. I will let you know more on this as the book drive progresses.

820 books $0 fundraising

There are so many good people in this world! It\'s incredible how perfect strangers called me and asked if they could drop off books at my home. I\'ve realized that people really like to help others if they have the chance.

Sean Robie wins the grand prize of $25 and Saumya Shruti comes in second with $15 while Mrs. Thatte comes in third for $10.
