Carroll Gardens Book Drive

11/09/2011 to 05/04/2012
Brooklyn NY

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We are a mother daughter team who live in Brooklyn NY. This is our first book drive. The name of our project is The Carroll Gardens Book Drive. Our names are Elsa Lindy (daughter) and Corinne Robbins (mother). We are collecting books on our own with out an organization. Basically, we use facebook and e-mails to contact people for donations. Since this is our first time we are sort of winging it. The people of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, and Brooklyn Heights have been amazing with their donations. We have about 400 children\'s books so far and need to collect around 600 more.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We want to make the world a better place. By giving the gift of reading and helping out others, it in turn makes you a better person. Sharing you\'re favorite children\'s book(s) gives other people a chance to enjoy them just as much as you did.

1027 books $614 fundraising

We are really excited to be throwing this holiday party, not only to see friends and family but to continue our book drive!

Our party was very successful! We had so much fun spending time with friends and family. We were also able to increase the number of books and money by a tremendous amount. Thank you so much to all who helped contribute to the library!

We are still working on raising more money and collecting more books. We have started packing some of the books into boxes, and have received a match for our library! We have a lot more to do but are on a great start!
