Build a Ghana Library

11/28/2011 to 04/15/2012
Davidsonville MD

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Brett Colburn. I\'m a 7th grader in Anne Arundel County. I love to travel and I love books, so building a library for kids like me in Ghana, Africa, is something that appeals to me.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Ghana currently has one of the highest school enrollment rates in West Africa— 83% of kids go to school. But about 500,000 kids can\'t go to school because of resource constraints in building schools, providing adequate textbooks, and training new teachers.

We aim to provide one school in Ghana with a complete secondary library of 1,000 books—everything the kids need to learn and move on to higher education.

About our African Partners...

The library we\'re building will go in Larteh-Auduapem High School.

Thanks to everyone who is helping to make this project a success! Special thanks to all the kids and teachers at my school, Central Middle School; my Scout Troop 454; and my neighbors in Lavall. Very special thanks to Books International Goodwill for the hundreds of books they donated to this library!
