Grayson's Project for Sierra Leone

04/07/2019 to 05/11/2019
Barrington NH

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Grayson Philbrick. I am a 15 year old, born and raised in Barrington, New Hampshire, currently attending Oyster River High School in Durham, NH. I chose this cause for my Power Of One project. This initiative has high school students find an issue they are passionate about and spread awareness and good works in some way.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I see books and literacy as very important catalysts for opportunity. They provide a chance for those in developing countries to experience other worlds and expand their imaginations. More importantly, they provide learning and educational opportunities. This can lead to a better chance of finding a job and escaping poverty.

About our African Partners...

I am yet to be informed as to where specifically in Sierra Leone the books will be going but will find out over the summer. You can find out more about Sierra Leone and the issues they have faced here:

Please contribute these kinds of books...

I am supplying a community library with books. I am looking for donations of gently used books written in English for pre-school to 8th grade reading levels. Small educational games or puzzles would also gladly be accepted.
Specifics about what is and what is not accepted here:

Here are some ways that you can help...

I am primarily looking for donations of books or money. Please do not buy books to donate. I would prefer that money was used to help cover the cost of shipping. If you can not bring in any books or afford to donate, another great way to help is to share this page and spread the word! The more people that visit this page and know about the cause, the more donations will come in. Thank you!
