Book Drive for Kenyasi, Ghana

04/01/2011 to 04/30/2011
Bellevue WA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Hello, my name is Thomas, and I am senior at International School in Bellevue, Washington. For my senior project, I am doing a project on early literacy, and part of this is organizing a book drive for Kenyasi, Ghana. I chose to do this book drive because I wanted to do something that would benefit those in need. I chose to do a book drive because I realize the importance of reading in a child's development.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Early literacy is one of the most important things to a child's development. And literacy is one of the most important skills for life. Starting a book drive for Ghana allows books to be given to children in Ghana who would otherwise not have access to them. This access can provide them with a magnitude of experiences and opportunities that they otherwise would have never had.
