George M. Shirakawa's African Library Project

09/24/2018 to 12/14/2018
San Jose CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Thank you for your interest in supporting our cause. We represent George M. Shirakawa Elementary School in the Bay Area. We all come from different backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic status, but when there's an issue; we think how we can help! That is the culture of our school and of our community! Join us in helping children around the world receive what they DESERVE!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Third graders are learning about the lack of books and resources around the world and with our project-based learning in mind, we wanted to see how we can help. We are collaborating with the African Library Project to increase awareness and bring attention to this issue, so WE CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

About our African Partners...

We will be collaborating with a Primary School in Botswana, Africa.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We will be supporting a primary school in Botswana, Africa. They are hoping for primary books from Preschool level to fourth grade level.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We will start our book drive and donations on Monday, September 24th, 2018 through Friday, December 14th, 2018. You may drop off book donations to our front office during school hours (8:00 am- 1:00 pm).

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

As we collect books, we will also need to fundraise funds to ship the books to New Orleans, where they will ship the books to Botswana, Africa for us. Due to that process, we are also asking for monetary donations. Please contact Ms. Linh at linh.ho@fmsd.org.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Any help is considered help. Please share our African Library Project link http://africanlibraryproject.org/book-drives/book-drives-in-action?alpdetail=1331, our third grade website www.superstudents408.com to know more about our third grade team, and remember to share on ALL your social media outlets.
