Sierra Leone Elementary School Library Project

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We are a group of friends in Denver Colorado who are passionate about education and social justice. This summer we are excited to partner with African Library Project to start a library at Kindoya Preparatory School in Sierra Leone.

Two of our members are cycling across Okalhoma to raise funds for our cause. Please help us to light up the imaginations of the kids at Kindoya by donating to our fundraising campaign.

About our African Partners...

Kindoya Preparatory School was founded five years ago. In spite of limited resources, the school is a safe space that provides a rigorous education to the children in the community including instruction in math, English, science and social studies, agriculture, religious studies, drama, art and PE.

The school is located in Kambia District in the Northern Providence bordering Guinea. Kambia district is ethnically diverse and is considered the main rice bowl of Sierra Leone. Most of the community live on limited means and there is no electricity or running water. However, the residents in the Kindoya community are very enterprising and they make their livelihood through farming, hunting, trading and migrant labor.

During the 11 years of civil war, all the schools, hospitals and churches in the district were destroyed. Over a decade after the civil war ended, the district still suffers from the devastation and tragedy which occurred during the war.

Partner with us to start a library at Kindoya to make a difference in the lives of this wonderful community.
