Jaden Haney Eagle Scout Project African Library Book Drive

06/01/2018 to 08/31/2018
Cornelius NC

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Jaden Haney. I am a Boy Scout in Troop 77 in the Mecklenburg County Council. I'm currently 14 years old and will being turning 15 by the end of this service. I will be moving on to high school next year and participating in marching band and symphonic band. I play the trumpet, guitar, and some piano, and I love music. That's a little bit about me for you!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I am doing this project to help provide a safe, educational environment for the younger children and youth of Sierra Leone. This will give them the opportunity of gaining an education as well as a chance to learn more about English literacy.

About our African Partners...

My African Library partner in Sierra Leone is MCA School Bendugu. The library will be in the local school classroom. Bendugu is a farming town in western Sierra Leone. Very few people speak or have a chance to learn English. There is no electricity and no access to the internet. Many people are excited and committed to helping maintain the library in Bendugu.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Preschool - 8th grade reading level books.
2/3rds should be for preschool-4th grade.
1/3rd should be 5th-8th grade.
I am also looking for teacher resource material such as posters, flashcards, etc. Any donations like that will help!

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Books are being collected at our Community Center in Caldwell Station, as well as at the LDS Church at 148 Lazy Lane in Mooresville. Books can also be donated to us and collected at my home.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

I have set up a gofundme page to make donations simple and easy! My page is https://www.gofundme.com/jadeneagleproject

Here are some ways that you can help...

Please donate books and money. I will also need help packing and collecting books if you are interested.
