Help Me Read!

Olney MD

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Mhina Tumaini Foundation (MTF) is an international nonprofit organization committed to improving the health and increasing the access to educational opportunities of at risk young adults between the ages of 13-24 through the provision of health and educational services.

Founded in 2010, we aim to decrease the at-risk conditions that hinder young adults to reach their full potential. These conditions are “thought to be characteristics of the individual, or situations of the context they are a part of, that are believed to create higher likelihoods of undesirable life outcomes, or to impact overall quality of life” (US Census Bureau).

It is the aim of the foundation to provide the best services; efficiently and effectively. Therefore, we work with other organizations, governments, non-profits and various local partners to ensure all programs and activities bring about change while maintaining our independence and without political agenda and religious orientation.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

One of our established programs is to supply educational materials, text books and used computers to schools in need. This book-drive enables us to provide the necessary and essential components to create an environment that enables all students to partake in a "true" educational experience, in which the sky is the limit.

About our African Partners...

Mhina Tumaini Foundation in partnership with the African Library Project are conducting a book drive in the months of July & August to create a library for 4th-8th grade students in Sierra Leone.

Our goal is to create a library of 1,000 gently used books: preschool- 4th grade books and 4th-8th grade, teacher resource materials for this school, and raise $500 to cover all shipping and handling costs; while this is challenging it is an achievable goal. The library will provide students the opportunity to expand their horizons beyond the scope of the classroom, the opportunity to visualize a life of progress and development and gives US the chance to make a difference.
