African Library Project

To Malawi, books, books and more books

01/28/2011 to 4/30/2011
San Francisco CA

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

I am Saida and I am 12 years old. I attend Aptos Middle School in San Francisco. I love to play softball, and basketball. I love the outdoors and I love dogs. I'm studying for my bat-mitzvah and writing about my Torah portion.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I chose to do a library in Africa as my couminity service project for my batmitzva. I've always loved Africa. In Malawi children learn to read and write in their native language till they are in 5th grade. Then they must learn English to progress further in their education to go on to high school. The schools do not have the books that they need to teach the children to read and write in English.
