BMS Builds a Library!

09/25/2017 to 11/30/2017
Mooresville NC

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

Brawley Middle School is a large-sized middle school with over 700 students located in Mooresville, North Carolina - a suburb of Charlotte. Students meet every day for an a special class called WIN. One group focuses on Community Service and they are heading up this book drive! Along with our media coordinator, we are working on a number of projects to help within our community and beyond!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

As a librarian and a Language Arts teacher, we know the power and freedom a book can provide. Our students are very fortunate to never know these issues, so we want to do all we can to help spread the love of reading around the world!

About our African Partners...

Our partner is the Nyabikaye Adventist Secondary School in Kenya. They have over 1200 students who attend and are trying to build a library to not only serve their students, but the entire community as well!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We need baby board books, paperback easy readers, paperback children's picture books, K-8 texts (English, math, geography, science), atlases and encyclopedias (less than 15 years old), paperback dictionaries, teacher resources and materials like posters, teacher editions, etc.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Books can be dropped off at the school. Donation bins are located all over the school! Please contact Ms. Moose or Ms. Lee if you have any other questions!

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

If you would like to donate money to help ship these books to our partner library in Africa, there are several ways to help. Cash or checks can be dropped off at school with Ms. Moose. Checks should be made out to Brawley Middle School with the subject note African Library Project.

Here are some ways that you can help...

We are in need of funds to help send these books to our partner library. Please share our information with friends, family and on social media. Every little bit helps!
