Aspen K-Kids

10/12/2017 to 11/15/2017
Los Alamos NM

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

We are Aspen School's K-Kids Club with elementary age students (first grade through sixth grade) who meet once a week. Every year we complete several service projects in the hopes to encourage community support, build character, and develop leadership among our youth.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Last year our K-Kids club helped one of our beloved, recently retired, teachers with her dream of sending her classroom library to Africa. We were inspired by her passion and decided to take action ourselves. As K-Kids, we pledge to "try to make the world a better place in which to live," so helping kids in Africa have access to books in their schools ensures that we are doing our part to make the world a better place.

About our African Partners...

The books we collect will go to Kamayoge Primary School in Kenya, Africa.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

Needed now:
*good condition children’s books (pre-k-8th grade reading level)
(great need for non-fiction, especially about science or world history and any books showing or about Africans or African Americans)
-encyclopedias less than 15 years old
-reference books

Here's how you can contribute your books...

Our book box is located in the front lobby at Aspen Elementary School. If you need help getting your books to Aspen, please contact Allison Washburn al.washburn@laschools.net.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Last year we sold popcorn and had a tape-the-teacher fundraiser, but this year we are planning a Penny Pileup competition as well as a few other fundraising ideas like carmel apple sales that are awaiting approval.
You may donate several ways: (1) By bringing your donation to the school and designating it for the African Library Project, Kamayoge Primary School; (2) By sending your check or money order to the school, Attention: African Library Project; (3) By donating online at
https://www.africanlibraryproject.org/about-us/donations (be sure to include the following in the comment section: This donation is for the Aspen K-Kids African Library Project, Kamayoge Primary School in Kenya, K2-31.
