Matthew Godfrey's Eagle Scout African Library Project

08/14/2017 to 09/30/2017
Syracuse UT

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

My name is Matthew Godfrey. I live in Syracuse, Utah and I'm super excited about this book drive!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

I have always loved reading. Reading has helped me learn and grow as a person for the better. I hope to give others the same luxury I had growing up of being able to study and learn through books. Kids in Kenya don't have as much opportunity to learn through books and therefore It's very important that we give it to them.

About our African Partners...

These books will be donated to a country in Africa called Kenya. Books are a necessity in these kids lives. The books donated will help educate and improve the hard lifestyles that many kids in Kenya are experiencing.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

I am collecting books in order to create a primary library which consists of books that would help kids in PRE-SCHOOL TO 4TH GRADE. Below are some examples of what I am looking for:
- Baby board books
- Children’s picture books
- Children’s fiction and non-fiction
- Early readers
- BIG books
- Teacher's resource books for school libraries
- Children’s dictionaries/picture dictionaries
- Encyclopedias less than 15 years old
- Children’s encyclopedias/picture encyclopedias
- Children’s thesauruses
- Books with universal themes (friendships, animals, love)
- Children's books teaching life skills about health, hygiene, adolescence, and careers
- Accurate up-to-date atlases
- Books about Africa or African-Americans
- Educational children's science and literary magazines in good condition
- Brain teasers, flash cards, educational games and puzzles
