We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This is the secondary online source for the Books For Africa book drive. This book drive started in the middle of November 2010 and will continue until February 2011. At Books For Africa Online, you can see what you can do to help, where to drop off books, and get updates on the progress of collection.
Starting in February 2011, the books will have all been collected and we can begin sorting.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We are collecting books to begin a library in Malawi, Africa. Our (and your) books will be used to teach an entrie community especially the elementary- and middle-school aged kids how to read and write in English. Literacy is crucial because it provides a means for communication with those you do not have direct contact with. This library will bring those children a chance at bringing their families – and who knows, perhaps even their countries – out of poverty and into a bright, wonderful future.
