Troop 300 Book Drive for Chalomwe LEA School Malawi

05/01/2017 to 05/26/2017
Las Vegas NV

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

This book drive is organized by ...

We are 5 Girl Scout Juniors hoping to receive our Bronze Award by organizing a book drive for the Chalomwe LEA School in Malawi Africa. This past year in our Troop we realized that we could make a difference by assisting others and we decided that helping to create a library would make a lasting impact on lots of kids.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe everybody deserves to learn and reading is a great way to learn. It is unfortunate that there are not enough libraries or books in the libraries for everyone.

About our African Partners...

Chalomwe LEA library currently only has 150 books. The school allows members of the community they serve to use their books, but this number of books in not enough to serve the 4000 people in the community. They would love to have more books!

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are looking for any book from pre-school to 4th grade reading level.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We are collecting gently used books at St. Anne Catholic School until May 26th. If you contact our Troop Leader, she will be more than happy to pick up donations directly. Also, you may purchase books through Amazon and have them sent to us! Please contact our Troop Leader for the mailing address.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

Please contact our Troop Leader if you would like to contribute to the shipping costs of of the books.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Donate gently used books, purchase books for us through amazon, make a financial contribution.
